Madison Wedding Limos and Venues

Madison, Wisconsin is filled with gorgeous wedding venues, from the traditional to the avant-garde. Which one is right for you? Wheter your idea of the perfect ceremony involves a historic church and saying your vows in your Mother’s gown or you’re hoping for a modern dress, unusual venue and vintage wedding limo, the perfect destination is within site. One of the state capitol’s interesting features is that it largely rests on an isthmus, that thin strip of land between Lakes Monona and Mendota. An essential question to ask from the start do you want your guests commuting to a ceremony and/or reception in Madison proper, or in the surrounding land? On the Isthmus you can tap into the heart of student and bohemian life and enjoy panoramic lake views. But your wedding plans will have to take serious account of the traffic. Although a knowledgeable car company will know the ins and outs of the city, and advise you on how much time to budget between destinations. Hot-spot destinations like State Street are closed to through traffic and surrounded by many one-way streets. It’s a commuter’s nightmare, and may confuse out-of-town guests. You may breathe easier off the Isthmus, and you’ll still have the benefits of viewing lakes Monona or Mendota if you host your wedding in Middleton or a close suburb. Whichever direction you go with, you have some wonderful options for a wedding venue:

On the Isthmus

  • Grace Episcopal Church: This is the oldest church in the city, and its charm is perfect for your wedding. There’s nothing more romantic than its courtyard!
  • The Terrace: Formally know as the University of Wisconsin’s Memorial Union Terrace, this lakeside gathering place is so much more than a fixture at the UW student center. It’s a legend for any Badgers fan–you know you want a picture picture of the happy couple on one of those iconic yellow deck chairs!
  • Capitol Square: This would be so much more than a courthouse wedding–the historic building is an unbelievable marble anchor for the city. It’s also a community gathering space–every Saturday the Madison Farmer’s Market brings fresh food vendors, musicians and artists to the Capitol steps. As a perk, have your guests stay at the Mansion Hill Inn just a block or two away–the magic of its Victorian exterior cannot be recreated anywhere else.
  • Overture Center of the Arts: This center of the fine arts has an elegant venue for weddings and other special events. Ask them about the unique lighting fixtures available for events, as well as their on-site catering company.
  • Tenney Park: This is a quaint park, famous for ice-skating every winter. The 37-acre park boasts some storybook views of Lake Mendota.
  • Monona Terrace–not to be confused with the UW Terrace, this popular conference center brings expos and entertainment to Madison. As a venue, it is all-inclusive! You can rent tables and tablecloths, a piano and other audiovisual services; you can also order your wedding cake and floral arrangements in-house.

Off the Isthmus

  • UW Arboretum: This university-maintained conservancy is a naturalist’s dream–and the peace and quiet will give your wedding an intimate atmosphere. The nature reserve is on Lake Wingra, so look out for mosquitoes!
  • Olbrich Botanical Gardens. These lush gardens can accommodate weddings in any season. The gardens are just north of the Isthmus, and will put you in the charming Atwood Avenue neighborhood.
